CAT ADOPTION FAQ
Q. What is the adoption fee for a cat?
The adoption fee is a $125 donation per kitten (under 1 year); $200 for a pair of kittens; $100 for an adult cat; $150 for a pair of adult cats. The fee goes entirely to Feral Care, none of it goes to All The Best Pet Care.
Q. What does the adoption fee cover?
Each cat is spayed or neutered, vaccinated, tested negative for FIV and feline leukemia (FeLV), de-wormed, and flea treated. The average cost of these services if done on your own would be between $150 and $300.
Q. What is the adoption procedure?
If you are interested in adopting one of our cats, please let an associate know which cat you are interested in. A one-day wait is mandatory before the completion of adoption; cats are a 20+ year commitment and we ask that you think overnight on such an important decision. In the meantime, we will be happy to place that cat “on hold” for you pending your interview.
At your interview, we will have you fill out an adoption questionnaire about your family, home, and current pets. Our adoption coordinator will review and discuss it with you. We request that all family members meet the cat prior to adoption, if at all possible, and we strongly recommend that any dogs in the household to interact with the cat before adoption. In certain instances, we will submit applications to Feral Care for further review if deemed necessary by the adoption coordinator.
Q. What are the requirements for adopting a cat?
Feral Care requires that you sign an adoption contract prior to bringing your new family member home. The contract requires you to:
1. Return the cat to Feral Care if at any point you are unable to keep it.
2. Keep the cat indoors only at all times (unless otherwise specified by Feral Care).
3. Never declaw the cat. Declawing is an extremely painful and unnecessary procedure akin to
amputating the first joint of the finger.
